One of the most dominant UFC champions in history has joined The One FC Championship.
Demetrious Johnson, aka Mighty Mouse, has completed a deal that will see him move from the powerhouse that is the UFC to the Asian based One FC.
Johnson began his MMA career after competing as one of the top wrestlers in the state of Washington, within the US, during his junior and senior years of high school. After graduating he made the move to mixed martial arts in 2007.
Johnson managed to put together a win streak of 10 successive wins, with a number of fighting promoters, to earn himself a place in the UFC.
Johnson became the UFC flyweight champion in 2012 and defended his championship 11 times over a period of six years, seven of those defences were won via KO or TKO.
Having finally been beaten in the octagon by Henry Cejudo, Johnson has decided that it is time to test his skills elsewhere.
Johnson currently holds a 27-3-1 professional record, with five wins coming via knockout and 11 via submission. He has never been finished in his 11-year career.
The 32 year old faces stiff competition in this new arena with fighters unfamiliar to him ready to face the former American champion. The likes of Adriano Moraes, Kairat Akhmetov, Reece McLaren, Danny Kingad and Gianni Subba are all potential rivals, however Johnson will surely have his eyes on displacing the current champion Geje ‘Gravity’ Eustaquio.
The next One Championship event takes place in Singapore on the 9th November and features title fights between Xiong Jing Nan and Angela Lee in the women’s strawweight division, and Bibiano Fernandes and Kevin Belingon in the men’s bantamweight division.
