Sam Fender included on Fifa 19 soundtrack

With every new Fifa title comes a scramble for artists, agents and record companies to have their songs included within the game. There is little wonder with the games being some of the best sellers, internationally, on a regular basis year on year. This year included along with the likes of big names such as Gorillaz, Death Cab for Cutie and Childish Gambino was Newcastle’s own Sam Fender.
The track Play God was selected to be one of the tracks representing the UK in the world wide track list. Play God, the most popular of Fender’s tracks, has over 2 million plays on his Spotify page, as well as hundreds of thousands of plays across various YouTube videos.
This year the team behind Fifa 19 have made efforts to seek out worldwide musicians of all genres in order to diversify their musical content for a worldwide audience, including 43 three tracks from 16 different countries. I can’t see things getting much more diverse than Scottish hip hop but we are nothing if not daring in our musical tastes.
Fender has seen a great deal of attention in 2018, featuring on the BBC Introducing channel as well as live shows across the countries. The next step, and a giant one at that, both in regards to audience as well as industry recognition surely comes with the inclusion of one of his tracks in this game. If you hadn’t heard of him before you will now. Given the other musicians that Fender is currently being listed alongside it is clear that the future is bright for the Geordie musician and his rise may have only just begun.
Sam Fender is currently touring around the UK and is set to appear back in Newcastle at the Newcastle Student Union on Saturday November 17th
